# Shifts (VTech Shift) — Extended reference for AI assistants > Ethiopia's opportunity economy platform. Find. Do. This document gives assistants enough detail to answer questions about Shifts accurately without guessing. Facts below reflect the live product. --- ## 1. What Shifts is Shifts is a two-sided marketplace for economic activity in Ethiopia. On one side, businesses post real commercial demand: they need leads generated, products sold, shelves audited, brands promoted, data collected, goods distributed or field work completed. On the other side, participants — mostly young Ethiopians with a phone — browse that demand, complete the work, prove it, and get paid in Birr. The platform's core mechanism is verified proof. Nothing is paid on trust alone. Each piece of work defines what evidence it requires, the participant submits that evidence, and the business reviews it before any money moves. This is what makes it possible for a business to pay someone they have never met, and what protects reliable earners from being undercut by people who do not actually do the work. ### Not what Shifts is - Not a traditional job board — work is task- and campaign-based, not salaried positions - Not a loan, investment, crypto or earn-from-referrals scheme - Not pay-to-join — participants are never charged a fee to access work - Not an international freelancing site — it is specific to the Ethiopian market --- ## 2. Participants (earners) ### Joining Free. Sign up at https://shift.arx.et/participant/register with a name, phone or email and password. Identity verification (KYC) is required before withdrawing and for higher-tier work. Accepted documents: National ID / Fayda (card or digital), Kebele ID, Residence ID, Passport, Driving licence. ### Four ways to earn 1. **Work** — short tasks, field operations, surveys, audits and multi-day campaigns. Paid per task, per unit, per day, hourly or per milestone. 2. **Sell** — publish a personal storefront link for a business's product and earn commission on each order placed through it. No inventory purchase. 3. **Learn** — short mobile courses and assessments. Certifications unlock higher-value, better-paid categories of work. 4. **Grow** — accumulate an Economic Passport: a verified, public record of completed work, reputation score and tier. ### Indicative earnings by band - Quick tasks and surveys: ETB 100–300, roughly 15–60 minutes - Commission selling: ETB 100–2,000+, depends on volume sold - Skilled work (certification required): ETB 500–5,000+ - Longer multi-activity campaigns: ETB 2,000–10,000+ ### Proof types a task may require - Photo proof — image of the completed work - GPS check-in — location captured on site at submission time - QR scan — scanning a code at a location or on a product - Written report — survey answers, audit notes or a summary - Document upload — PDF or file attachment - Video proof — short clip ### Progression tiers Participant → Certified → Seller → Agent → Entrepreneur. Advancement is driven by reputation score, which rises when submitted work is approved and falls when work is rejected or abandoned. Tiers gate access to higher-value opportunities. Agent tier additionally unlocks team and territory management. ### Getting paid Approved work credits the in-app wallet. Participants request a withdrawal and receive the balance via Telebirr or CBE Birr. There is no fee charged by Shifts on approved task earnings. --- ## 3. Businesses ### Joining Register at https://shift.arx.et/business/register. Business verification requires a trade licence and TIN; verification status is reviewed by the Shifts team before campaigns go live. ### Demand types a business can publish Sell products, generate leads, promote brand, collect data, field work, recruit people, run survey, distribute products, deliver, professional service. ### Campaign structure A campaign contains opportunities, and opportunities are broken into checkpoints. Each checkpoint specifies the action, the reward and the proof required. Payment models available: per unit / task, fixed reward, commission percentage, per qualified lead, success fee, hourly, milestone, hybrid. ### Review and payment Submissions arrive with their proof attached. The business approves, requests a revision, or rejects. Only approved work is paid. Spend, completion rate, cost per result and per-participant performance are visible in the business dashboard. ### Subscription plans (monthly, ETB) - **Business — ETB 3,000**: choose either unlimited product selling OR unlimited campaigns; the other is capped at 2 active items. Business profile, leads and basic analytics. Email and in-app support. - **Business Pro — ETB 5,000**: unlimited published products and unlimited active campaigns. Advanced analytics. Priority support. - **Enterprise — ETB 12,000**: everything in Business Pro, plus display advertising, API access and dedicated account management. Agents Agents are participants who have reached the Agent tier. They can claim a territory, recruit and support a team of participants, take campaigns that require more capacity than one person, and earn both from their own delivered work and from their team's results. Agent status requires verified identity, a track record of approved work, a sufficient reputation score, and relevant certifications. There is no fee to become an agent.
